  Heat Pumps

A heat pump is the cleanest, most efficient and least expensive way to heat and cool your home. In the summer, a heat pump removes the warm air from inside your home and moves it outside leaving cool air inside. In the winter, the process reverses itself, and the solar heat from the outside air is pumped inside, keeping your home warm. Believe it or not, winter air does contain heat that the heat pump can use.

A heat pump is quiet, clean and safe and needs no flue for venting fumes, does not require a flame and does not leave residue in your home.

There are different types of heat pumps to choose from, the most common in our area being an air-to-air heat pump. There are other types that are more efficient (meaning your utility bills will be lower) such as geothermal and variable speed, to name a few. For personal assistance in deciding which is the best choice for your home, contact CEMC’s energy advisor, Jimmy Luffman.

For maximum operating efficiency, proper installation of your heat pump is key! Choosing a heat pump dealer who is a member of the Quality Contractor Network (QCN) will insure your heat pump works correctly.

Choosing a Heating and Cooling Contractor

When it comes to electric heat pumps, the installation is most important for your comfort and the efficient operation of the unit.

That’s the reason behind the Quality Contractor Network (QCN) and the energy right ® program. QCN members have the skill and knowledge to install the right system for your home, service your equipment in the future and even coordinate financing.

  • Find out if he or she is a member of the Quality Contractor Network.
  • Ask the QCN contractor for references to find out if other customers were satisfied.
  • Get bids for the job from several QCN members. (Quality Contractor Network list)

Heat Pump Loans

It’s by far the largest energy user in your home – heating and air conditioning. So when you’re faced with choosing a heat-and-air unit for your home, it will affect your budget for years to come.

Fortunately, CEMC is here to help. Your cooperative can help you finance a new energy efficient (minimum 13 SEER package or SEER split) heat pump with a 8% loan up to $10,000. The loan can have up to a 10-year term with no penalty for early payoff.

To qualify for CEMC’s Heat Pump Program, applicants must be the owner(s) of the home and property where the heat pump is to be located and pass an independent credit review.

The customer contacts CEMC Consumer Services Department to fill out an application. If approved for the loan, the customer will select a vendor from CEMC’s list of approved heating and air contractors members of the TVA/CEMC Quality Contractor Network.

For more information, contact the Consumer Services Department 931-645-2481, or your district office.

Upon completion of the job, the CEMC energy advisor will inspect the heat pump installation for proper performance. Then the customer will complete paperwork for the loan.
