Won’t you join
us in Portland on Sept. 18?
By Jim Coode, CEMC General Manager
Three years ago in this space,
then-General Manager Carl Wilson stated
that history would be made at that
year’s annual meeting of Cumberland
Electric Membership Corporation. It was
historic because it was the first time
our cooperative would hold the biggest
event of the year in Sumner County.
Now, it is my privilege to report that
history is repeating itself, because
we’re coming back to Sumner County, back
to Portland High School for the 2010
CEMC Annual Membership Meeting.
And why not? More of
our members reside in Sumner than any of
the other four counties in CEMC’s
service area. But that’s not the only
reason to meet at PHS. It is a
first-rate facility with plenty of
space, convenient parking and excellent
accoustics, and we have been made to
feel welcome there. It is an ideal place
for our gathering.
Our meeting will be
held on Saturday, Sept. 18. Doors will
open for registration and breakfast at
8AM. The business portion of the meeting
will begin at 10, so you’ll have plenty
of time to browse the exhibits and
register for prizes. Speaking of prizes,
we’ll be trying something different this
year with the prize drawings. Instead of
waiting until the end of the business
meeting to start announcing who won
what, we’ll be drawing the names of some
of the prize winners throughout the
business meeting.
We want our meeting
to be a family affair, and that’s why we
will again have a Youth Corner for
children to play and have supervised fun
and win their own prizes.
Musical entertainment
will be provided by The Bluegrass
Volunteers, a band made up of local
musicians.
There are three
gentlemen seeking re-election to our
Board of Directors with your votes. Of
course, you can vote at any CEMC
district business office on Friday,
Sept. 17 if you won’t be able to attend
the meeting in Portland.
But we hope you will
come and be with us as we report on the
state of the cooperative to the
membership. We think it will be worth
your while!
